What to doStir the soup slowly in one direction until you have set up a whirlpool in the bowl. Take the spoon out quickly and watch as the whirlpool slows down. What happens next? Did you see the whirlpool slow down, stop and then start to spin in the opposite direction? Substances which change direction after they have been stretched in one direction and released are called elastic substances. We often think of elastic substances as being solid (like rubber bands) but cream soups are elastic liquids!
